T. Ron and Beverly Hahs

T. Ron and Beverly Hahs are lifelong residents of Cape County who believe in giving back to a community that has blessed them in so many ways.

Ron, a highly respected financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual, and Beverly, a freelance writer who seeks out fascinating bits of history for Southeast Missourian and Cash-Book Journal readers, know SoutheastHEALTH as part of that community very well.

"Both of our parents were born at Southeast, we were born at Southeast, our siblings were born at Southeast and our four children were born at Southeast, so that's a real family connection," Ron says. The couple has been supportive of SoutheastHEALTH fund drives for new facilities and services through the years. In the late 1980s, Ron was asked to join the Hospital Board of Trustees. While a Board of Trustees member, Ron also served on its Beautification Committee, a group charged with oversight of everything from landscaping the grounds to approving interior art work and, when the main Hospital Lobby was remodeled, direction of the creation of a massive "History of Medicine" mural which visitors continue to admire today.

When the Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing was established in 1990, it brought an added dimension to Southeast's long-standing commitment to Nursing, both within the confines of the Hospital and now to the larger scope of community. Ron was tapped to become a charter member of its Board of Directors, helping the nursing education program establish a firm educational foothold.

Seeing the College evolve into the College of Nursing & Health Sciences, moving from a small, dated location to a larger space in a bank on William Street and, just recently, acquiring all three floors of the former bank and completing a total renovation has been very fulfilling, Ron adds.

"We all can appreciate how much this College was needed," Beverly says. "It's great that students can stay local and have a rewarding healthcare career."

Ron and Beverly are currently in the midst of a five-year pledge toward the College renovation and also are planned giving donors. Ron explains, "Being planned giving donors is a way to continue to be supportive of the SoutheastHEALTH College of Nursing and Health Sciences with a tax-deductible gift."

"SoutheastHEALTH has been a part of the community for so many years," Beverly says. "We have enjoyed seeing it progress to where it is today and want to see that progress continue in years to come."
